Proverbs 21:4 - "Haughty eyes and an arrogant heart, the lamp of the wicked ones, are sin"
comments based on WT 2005/10/15
The most important reason to avoid haughtiness is Gods view on this quality. His Word tells us: "Haughty eyes and an arrogant heart, the lamp of the wicked ones, are sin" (prov 21:4). Remarkable the bible warns specifically christians "who are rich in the present system of things not to be high-minded or arrogant (1 Tim 6:17). Christians who are not rich should avoid a haughty eye and consider that everyone, wether rich or poor, can become haughty.
Always think about the bad results of haughtiness. Because "God opposes the haughty ones", we need to determine to oppose feelings of improper praud. While we try to be modest christians, we can look forward to the great day of Jehovah, when the haughty ones and their harvest will be removed of the earth. "And the haughtiness of the earthling man must bow down, and the loftiness of men must become low; and Jehovah alone must be put on high in that day" is what Isaiah 2:17 tells us.
