An unbelieving family member had this question: Since Jehovah is a God of forgiveness, why did He not forgive Satan?

Can anyone help with an answer?

Hi SlaveforJah,

I suppose the simple answer is that forgiveness is only possible if an individual is repentant. Satan (Resister) holds an opposite position to Jehovah on the issue of sovereignty and God's right to rule over humankind as well as himself and those like him. This conviction is also of course fed by pride and vanity. The likelihood of Satan giving up this, as he would see it, incontravertable truth, ie that Jehovah has no such right would mean more than simple regret at his actions. He would need a total change of philosophy. Accordingly, even if at any time he recognises his fate and wishes it were otherwise, he cannot bring himself to change his position and therefore he cannot repent.
Then of course there is the question of sin against the Holy Spirit, which as we know is unforgivable. I'm not sure whether Satan's course falls into this category, but I would think it likely. As a Resister Satan attempts to thwart God's purpose which is achieved through his Holy Spirit, so perhaps given the degree to which Satan has gone this also makes forgiveness impossible.

Just my thoughts,

EF

Christ's sacrifice was for imperfect humans, repentant imperfect humans who put faith in his sacrifice and act upon it. Sin has to be atoned. Satan was a perfect, and chose to to disobey God. The same can be said for Adam and Eve.
(Acts 16: 30-32) (Rom 5:12)(John 3:16) Can you imagine Satan subjecting himself to Jesus?

There is no longer any forgiveness for willful sin after coming to an accurate knowledge of truth, (Heb 10:26) this was addressed to imperfect men, how much more so perfect ones. I think Satan having been there both in heaven and in the garden witnesses amazing things and would have had a meaningful deep relationship with Jehovah himself at one time, (John 8:44) and chose to destroy that by allowing pride and jealously to take root in him, (James 1 13-15) and then seduced not only Eve but also many of Jehovah's heavenly sons, he tried the same tactics with Gods Son (Matt 4)

The longer a person goes against their conscience, they become corrupt, enslaved to sin. (2 Peter 2:19)

if you step on my foot accidently and we both laugh, and you say "i'm sorry", case closed. you are forgiven.

if you say " did it hurt?", i wonder if the injury was intentional.

if you laugh at my obvious pain, i don't wonder if the injury was intentional. i expect an apology.

if you refuse to apologize, you are a jerk.

does anyone know of an "apology from satan"?

Thank you for your addition here, douglas.

So, why did Jehovah not forgive Satan? It seems the consensus answer here is: "Because he never asked."

Thanks all.

Should Jehovah forgive satan? Hell no.
If he never forgave Adam and Eve, who were decieved by this dispicable creature, why on earth should he for give this egomaniac, who deliberately set out to cause devestation and corruption of everything pure and holy..
If Jehovah forgave him, all this suffering would be in vain, Christs humiliation, bloody wars, paedophiles, starvation, cancer and death are just some of the evils this debased creature has caused..Who could even trust him after all of this lol, not me.

I'll tell you how bad he is, he knows that after a thousand years he will be released again, and then his end result is DEATH.. If he wanted to he could say to Jehovah, im not going to do this any more, i dont want to decieve people or test them, but oh no, he just does what he does best "lie and decieve" Im glad Jehovah wont forgive him, this will teach any other angel of Jehovah not to try and pull a fast one again.

Praise Jah,
