Two Sticks of Ezekiel

Ezekiel 37:16-17 (NWT) – 'And as for you, O son of man, take for yourself a stick and write upon it, "For Judah and for the sons of Israel his partners." And take another stick and write upon it, "For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and all the house of Israel his partners." And cause them to approach each other into one stick for yourself, and they will actually become just one in your hand.'

Ezekiel 37:16-17 (MKJV) – 'And you, son of man, take a stick and write on it, For Judah and for his companions, the sons of Israel. And take another stick and write on it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and all the house of Israel, his companions. And join them to one another into one stick. And they shall become one in your hand.'

Who are the partners, companions of both sticks?

From Wesley's Notes:

First stick: (A writing tablet or a tally, such as is fit to be written upon.) His companions: Benjamin and part of Levi, who kept with the tribe of Judah.

Second Stick: Ephraim was the most considerable tribe in the kingdom of Israel, when divided from the other two. The house of Israel are the other nine tribes, who continued with Ephraim.

Interesting Matthew Henry Comment:

Ezekiel 37:15-28 – 'This emblem (two sticks) was to show the people, that the Lord would unite Judah and Israel. Christ is the true David, Israel's King of old; and those whom he makes willing in the day of his power, he makes to walk in his judgments, and to keep his statutes.

Two sticks of Ezekiel:

- the stick of Ephraim is joined to stick of Judah

Points to ponder:

- the stick of Ephraim is joined to stick of Judah not Judah to Ephraim

- Ephraim is another name for the 10-tribe northern kingdom. (Ephraim, Joseph, Samaria, Northern Kingdom, Israel...all are names for 10 northern tribes)

Ephraim refused to:

1. Acknowledge the leadership of Judah,

2. refused to submit to the King,

3. refused to participate in the Temple at Jerusalem and the services there,

4. built their own temples at Bethel and Dan,

5. put in their own golden calf idols,

6. changed the dates of the festivals of Jehovah,

7. tossed out the Levitical priesthood,

8. sold the priesthood to whoever.'

At first, I was thinking that they might represent the 2 witnesses. 'their companions' would be JW's and those would listen to their witnessing. But I would not be able to explain how one is joined to stick to the other.
I'll think more about it.

on second thought, could it mean that the anointed ones from bethel(faithful ones) will have no choice but to join with faithful anointed ones they had previously DFed once the tower fall?
hence the two witnesses

I was also thinking along these lines. Obviously there are those to be redeemed after the refining, some would be inside the org, while others have either left or been df'd.

As we get closer to the end, it will really become more clear. Things are certainly moving along very rapidly!

Great post, Steadfast! Ezekiel is becoming abundantly vivid these days!
