View Full Version : Shortwave Program

Hello everyone
The watchman shortwave program begins airing today at 21:30 CET, that's Central Europen Time. I am not sure exactly what time that is elsewhere. I think it will be like 1:30 EST. Saturday and Sunday the same program airs at 21:00 CET. Unfortunately I am going to be away from my desk most of today.
Here is a time zone map, maybe someone can figure out which zone is CET. http://www.worldtimezone.net/index24.php
Here is a link to Nexus. http://www.egradio.org/index.php The All gospel Radio links on the left column will allow you to stream the program while it airs on the radio, either HI or LO quality.
Thanks to our old buddy Stinger, who used to post here, for the two music tracks. (I, of course, couldn't resist adding a distorted and phasered guitar track on the intro piece. :icon_redface: )
We will archive the programs but we are setting up a new website to combine both the podcasts, shortwave programs and the videos, and we haven't really hit on a design yet. So, it might be a week or two. Maybe we will go ahead and temporarily archive the shortwave on the podcast blog.
Today's program is pretty basic, I explain that God's name is Jehovah and that Satan is the ruler of the world. Still, I suppose that's pretty radical for Gospel radio. I wonder how long they will let me teach people the truth before they pull the plug. LOL

Thanks Elatjewel
Just let me add, I do not speak extemporaniously, like on the podcasts. And I am speaking rather slowly on purpose. According to Nexus the main request from listeners is that they wish the speakers would speak more slowly, because, obviously, English is not the primary language of Europe and Africa.

Such a hard thing to do! When I speak to my friends from Africa I have to constantly remind myself to s-l-o-w d-o-w-n.
Until I moved overseas I never realized how much I used metaphors in every day speech. And how sloppy I was with my English. So many things to remember when talking to foreigners!

Here in Finland, I'm one hour ahead of CET, while the UK and Portugal are one hour behind.
I pray for Jah's blessing to continue to be with you on this project!

I'm actually in the CET time zone, it's 6 hours ahead of EST, 8 hours ahead of MST, and 1 hour ahead of GMT.

I just tuned in to the link here:

I clicked on AllGospelRadio (hi) and I'm hearing some music program from Milano, Italy.
Not bad, but not what I was expecting. ;)

I got some religious broadcasts on the shortwave tonight, not sure which station is the right one though yet. I will try and try again.

Watchman, your voice sounded different...and what was that you were saying about the "eternal damnation of hell"?
Then again, maybe I heard the wrong broadcast? I had the time right.

Hat trick? I know what a canadian hat trick is, but since most of the people on the 'Isles' don't know who Wayne Gretzky is, I'm thinking it might be something different.

Hi Robert: I wanted to start a thread today but I couldn't because I was not allowed to do it. Do you have any idea why? I have no problems posting a comment but I can't start a new topic.

wikipedia
A hat-trick in sports is associated with succeeding at anything three times in three consecutive attempts. In North America it is often rendered as hat trick, with no hyphen. (The Oxford English Dictionary lists it unhyphenated and gives a variety of examples published in the 19th and 20th centuries both with and without the hyphen.)

This reminds me of the time I was listening to a preacher on the “Sunday Morning Worship” while driving to the KH.
I enjoyed it so much…….Absolutely nothing to do with the Bible but he was incredibly funny………I found myself a few miles past the hall………
I thought , Oh, My Giddyaunt…………………Never listen to the other side again!

Just so ya know, the watchman show is supposed to air today at 21:30 Central European Time, which is 3:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. (12:30 PST) Saturday and Sunday the same show will aire at 21:00 CET. The program schedulers messed up last week and the show didn't aire. Hopefully they will get it right this week. As a kind gesture the radio station gave me a free half hour of air time this Sunday at noon CET. Here's the schedule for today http://www.nexus.org/NEXUS-IBA/Schedules/fri.htm

Thank you..

Hi Gabriel
You cannot get it on actual shortwave radio unless you live in Europe, the Middle East or Africa and have a shortwave receiver. However, you can listen to it on the Internet as it is broadcasted on the radio at the link I provided. Also, as I stated, we will post the archive of the program on the under-construction e-watchman.tv web site so you can listen to it like a podcast.
I appreciate your interest.

Well, I still didn't get to hear it! If someone else says it worked for them, then consider me thick as a brick!
Robert, don't you pre-record in your studio and send them the audio in mp3 or other format?

Oh man. I heard it. Wish I hadn't. The sound quality was awful, absolutely awful. It sounded okay on my desktop but the file got horribly degraded somewhere along the line. :Crash:
I got to educate myself and do some serious sound enginerring for next week's program. I am totally embarrassed. :icon_redface:
Oh, but, yes James. I do the program on my desktop and send it as an MP3 file to the radio producers

I just konked myself in the head :38786-6: -- realizing that part of the problem with the muddled sounding program might be that I recorded the file in stereo, which is what I have always done for the podcasts to give them a thicker sound, and which means the file is twice the size of a mono recording. But stereo is totally usless for shortwave broadcasting and unnecessarily fattens the compressed broadcasted signal and the streaming file. Of course, I didn't actually hear the shortwave but listening to the lo-quality streaming version is an approximation, I assume. Okay, never mind my rambling. I'm just talking to myself here.

Not sure Orchid. Might be a couple more weeks. Like I said before, we are doing a overhaul of the video and podcast sites, combining them. My webmaster is incorporating some flash stuff too, which apparently takes a bit of time to understand and master. I was going to simply post the shortwave shows on the podcast blog for now but I decided against it for technical reasons. Look at it this way, when we do get around to publishing there will be a few shows to listen to.

Thanks Jinn. I would like to get some feedback from the field as to the sound quality. The show ought to air tomorrow at 8:30 pm London time and 8 pm Sat & Sun. Unfortuantely I still haven't gotten the technical end cleaned up yet, but I am getting there, I think.

It is coming along fine. It really puts me under the gun though to make the weekly deadline to have the program uploaded. It's like giving a new public talk every week. But that's fine. If there is only one person out there who listens it is worth the trouble.
As of this week I dropped the Friday evening broadcast to Europe and Africa and started broadcasting to India and Pakistan instead. Although they are mostly Muslim and Hindu there is a sizable percentage of the population that speaks English. So, we'll see what comes of it. So now watchman aires Saturday and Sunday evening to Europe, Africa and the Middle East and Sunday to India and Pakistan. We should have the program archives up on the watchman media site by late next week. Thanks for your interest.
