The more I look at this prophecy the more it seems to be saying that the 666 beast of Revelation will have seven years to rule.

There is a definite parallel drawn in the Bible between the 666 beast and King Nebuchadnezzar himself. The image that he set up on the Plains of Dura that he attempted to force everyone to worship measured 60 cubits in height by 6 cubits in breadth. I believe that the prophecy that the Watchtower erroneously based it's 1914 interpretation on still has significant meaning, minus the "day for a year" application. Notice the wording here:

16 Let its heart be changed from that of mankind, and let the heart of a beast be given to it, and let seven times pass over it. 17 By the decree of watchers the thing is, and the saying of holy ones the request is, to the intent that people living may know that the Most High is Ruler in the kingdom of mankind and that to the one whom he wants to, he gives it and he sets up over it even the lowliest one of mankind."

23 "'And because the king beheld a watcher, even a holy one, coming down from the heavens, who was also saying: "CHOP the tree down, and RUIN it. However, LEAVE its rootstock itself in the earth, but with a banding of iron and of copper, among the grass of the field, and with the dew of the heavens let it become wet, and [b]with the beasts of the field let its portion be until seven times themselves pass over it," 24 this is the interpretation, O king, and the decree of the Most High is that which must befall my lord the king. 25 And you they will be driving away from men, and with the beasts of the field your dwelling will come to be, and the vegetation is what they will give even to you to eat just like bulls; and with the dew of the heavens you yourself will be getting wet, and seven times themselves will pass over you, until you know that the Most High is Ruler in the kingdom of mankind, and that to the one whom he wants to he gives it.

The 1,335 days of Daniel does not begin until the holy ones are attacked. They are attacked by the 8th king. It cannot be reasonably assumed that they are attacked on the very day the beast comes to power. It would have to establish itself first. Since it is rising up after a cataclysmic event destroys the King of the South, it seems quite reasonable to me that the rulership will last seven years in total.

I know it's a horrible thought to have to endure that long, 42 months is lot more palatable. But since the beast will be wondered at "admiringly", it will not immediately reveal it's true Antichrist form, it will seem to be a savior for a time, during which those "admirers" willingly receive it's mark.

Since the prophecy in Daniel says "let the heart of a beast be given it", it seems reasonable to draw a parallel to the 666 beast of Revelation. Since we know that the seven times of Daniel must still in some way have significant meaning, to apply it to the full length of rulership of the eighth king seems to make a lot of sense to me.

This is an important point for the witnessing work also. It is true that the book of Daniel has yet to be unsealed, but I want to be careful not to lead others to believe that the UN will only last for 42 months if we do not indeed know for sure.

Dear Brother Jesh,

Have you ever considered that 'seven times' doesn't necessarily mean seven years?

The number seven can signify 'completeness' of purpose.

Take a look at these scriptures:

Psalms 79:12 – 'And repay to our neighbors seven times into their bosom their reproach with which they have reproached you, O Jehovah.'

Daniel 3:19b – 'He was answering and saying to heat up the furnace seven times more than it was customary to heat it up.'

So, the seven times in Daniel may not be seven literal years. When you look at all the other numbers in the Bible relating to the tribulation, they break down this way:

Daniel 8:13-14 – And I got to hear a certain holy one's speaking, and another holy one proceeded to say to the particular one who was speaking: 'How long will the vision of the constant [feature] and of the transgression causing desolation to make both [the] holy place and [the] army things to trample on?' So he said to me: 'Until two thousand three hundred evenings [and] mornings, and [the] holy place will certainly be brought into right condition.'

My comment: This timeframe could be looked at to mean 1,150 days complete days by dividing in two. The Jewish calendar always included evening and morning as the completion of one full day. Divide 1,150 days by 3=almost 3-1/2 years.

Time, Times, Half a Time

Daniel 7:25 – And he (king of the north) will speak even words against the Most High, and he will harass continually the holy ones themselves of the Supreme One. And he will intend to change times and law, and they (holy ones) will be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time.

Daniel 12:7 – And I began to hear the man clothed with the linen, who was above the waters of the stream, as he proceeded to raise his right [hand] and his left [hand] to the heavens and to swear by the One who is alive for time indefinite: ' It will be for an appointed time, appointed times and a half. As soon as there will have been a finishing of the dashing of the power of the holy people to pieces, all these things will come to their finish.'

Revelation 12:14 – But the two wings of the great eagle were given the woman, that she might fly to the wilderness to her place; there is where she is fed for a time and times and half a time.

My comment: Scripturally, a time amounts to one year of 360 days, so the timeframe mentioned here would amount to 3-1/2 years.

Forty-Two Months

Revelation 11:2 – But as for the courtyard that is outside the temple [sanctuary], cast it clear out and do not measure it, because it has been given to the nations, and they will trample the holy city underfoot for forty-two months.

Revelation 13:5 – And a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies was given it, and authority to act forty-two months was given it.

My comment: Forty-two months = 3-1/2 years.

1,260 Days

Revelation 11:3 – And I will cause my two witnesses to prophesy a thousand two hundred and sixty days dressed in sackcloth.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and sixty days.

My comment: Here again, 1,260 days = 3-1/2 years.

1,290 Days

Daniel 12:11 – And from the time that the constant [feature] has been removed and there has been a placing of the disgusting thing that is causing desolation, there will be one thousand two hundred and ninety days.

My comment: This timeframe is a little over the 3-1/2 years.

1,335 Days

Daniel 12:12 – Happy and holy is the one who is keeping in expectation and who arrives at the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.

My comment: Again, this timeframe is slightly over 3-1/2 years.

If you put these timeframes in context, you will see that the beast of Revelation 13 rules for 3-1/2 years, the preaching of the 2 witnesses is 3-1/2 years, the trampling of Jerusalem is 3-1/2 years, and the holy ones are harassed for 3-1/2 years and finally killed. Some timeframes are a little less or a little more, but I think you get the idea.

When the great tribulation breaks out, all these timeframes begin at approximately the same time.

As far as the beast needing an extended period of time, like 3-1/2 years, to set up his kingdom, I think if we take a closer look at the UN, we can see that the foundation and pillars of the one world government are already in place….perhaps even far more than we realize, as your personal investigation of the New World Order has already confirmed. ;)

What scriptures would you use to support the conclusion of a seven-year tribulation?

Thank you Steadfast.

I can't see how the words "and let seven times pass" is referring to "times" as in "multiplication". And I thought that Nebuchadnezzar was afflicted with the lycanthropy disease for seven literal years, as per those pictures in the WT publications showing him with the long beard and the fingernails that are about 8 inches long.

Also, Jesus said:

3 And I saw one of its heads as though slaughtered to death, but its death-stroke got healed, and all the earth followed the wild beast with admiration. 4 And they worshiped the dragon because it gave the authority to the wild beast, and they worshiped the wild beast with the words: "Who is like the wild beast, and who can do battle with it?" 5 And a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies was given it, and authority to act forty-two months was given it. 6 And it opened its mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name and his residence, even those residing in heaven. 7 And there was granted it to wage war with the holy ones and conquer them, and authority was given it over every tribe and people and tongue and nation. 8 And all those who dwell on the earth will worship it; the name of not one of them stands written in the scroll of life of the Lamb who was slaughtered, from the founding of the world.

Notice the sequence of events here: In verses 3 and 4 it seems that the beast is in a favorable light as far as the world is concerned, and then an event happens: "A mouth was given it". This intrigues me. Who or what is this mouth that is suddenly given to it? Notice that it starts blaspheming God's NAME and his residence. Who can blaspheme his NAME if no one uses it or even cares about it besides the Watchtower? Could the mouth be (gasp) a certain GOVERNING BODY that aligns itself with it? Enter "Disgusting thing", then the mass exodus begins? Then the attack comes against those who bail out and head for the hills, who refuse to take the mark, and this point marks the beginning of the 42 months? And when that happens it signals Jehovah to use the NWO to put a permanent end to Bethaven Inc.? My point was that there may be a longer period of time than we think while the world is wondering admiringly at it, for a total of 7 years.

It's just my theory, please let me know if it can't work.

Thanks
Lou

Even though the book of Daniel is sealed up until the time of the end, John in his vision makes no reference to it during the Lords day. If it was relating to an actual time frame it wouldn't necessarily fit into the prophecy of Revelations forty two months or three and a half years. Even though "The Lexicon Linguae Aramaicae Veteris Testamenti says that the "seven times" of Nebuchadnezzar's dream were seven literal years." (Wt 1986 p5)

On the other hand though it may well be a literal seven years. The eighth king will certainly set its self up over all the other kings and will no doubt be beast like in personality. And it may well be in power for seven years, we can't rule it out of the realms of possibility. Thus after three and a half years being the first half of the seven the forty two months mentioned in Revelation begins. The eighth king then turns on the Watchtower and its collapses at the beginning of the 42 months. Then the prophecy relates that "I will cause my two witnesses to prophesy a thousand two hundred and sixty days dressed in sackcloth". This brings us to the end of the seven years and the 42 month.
