A Jehovah's Witness elder who investigators said raped a girl when she was 8 years old has been arrested, Volusia County sheriff's officials said Monday.

And now police are anxious to learn whether there are any others who may have been attacked by 40-year-old Henry William Hauch of Mims, who has been charged with sexual battery.

Investigators said Hauch, an elder with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Titusville, attacked the girl in 1999 when she was 8.

Information about the assault surfaced in June 2006 when the girl -- now 15 -- was discussing sex and boys with her older sister, according to the report. When the sister asked the accuser whether she had ever had sex, she said, "Yes, but it was wrong."

The girl's parents were friends of Hauch's and attended the same church. She told her sibling that she had stayed at the Hauch home sometime in 1999.

The teen said she had to sleep with Hauch and his wife because the couple had no other beds in their residence, the report states. Detectives were able to secure a warrant recently after another woman who claimed she was sexually molested by Hauch came forward in January.

Hauch was released from the Volusia County Branch Jail on Friday after posting $250,000 bail. Calls to Hauch's business and home were not returned Monday afternoon.

Many of Jehovah`s witnesses would be outraged by these occurences, also many will not be able to make the connection between the dangers in idolisation of the society and this kind of thing.

Such a difficult issue. thanks DT

Dear Doubting Thomas-

Don&#39;t be upset about sharing this pedophile information. There are no doubt many viewing this site that have not yet learned about the extent of this problem in the congregations. It may be new information to them.

Although Mark 8:17 says: "For there is nothing hidden that will not become manifest, neither anything carefully concealed that will never become known and never come into the open," it is unlikely these pedophiles ever applied this scripture to themselves.

I do appreciate that the article did note that it was a JW elder. Sort of blows a hole in the spiritual paradise concept and having the information published will make it hard for JWs to deny the problem, since if it were just within the congregation it might be that noone would ever know!

How any responsible citizen could allow a pedophile to go door-to-door, accompanied by someone or not, is beyond reason. One could say beyond basic human decency.

I continue to be shocked that the WT has not changed their policy in this regard. Their stubborn stand is nothing other than hubris.

Not alerting the congregations of a criminal in their midst is a violation of every divine value, be it Mosaic or Christian. There can be no Christian justification for such a dismal record of not protecting victims and future victims from such diseased souls as child molesters.

May Jehovah bless these poor children.

I have always had the gift from Jehovah of being able to read most people through the manner they carry themselves and the way they act. I always know when I am being lied to. You know the feeling, you just can&#39;t trust some people and know they are fake and shifty eyed? I have always been right in the past. Our prosiding elder made me feel that way. I did&#39;nt trust him and could see deep down and by listening to the soft voice in my heart, that he was a wolf in sheep covering. So I watched him like a hawk, and I made him feel uneasy. I would stare him down while he gave talks, which made him stumble his words and stutter and mess up his talks and sometimes even lose his place, drop his notes, etc. Well, recently....he had to step down for he was dicovered to be a pedophile. I also did&#39;nt trust the service overseer, and I knew right off on the first day I moved into that hall, and he was also a wolf, and with-in two weeks of meetings, my hunches proved true....for he was adulterating with some married sister , and there was a big blow-up, and disfellowshippings. All uncleaness is being discovered from with-in, because Jehovah wants it known.

i have leaned to trust my intuition - when i was young i had a few close calls to being molested - not a witness situation though - a feeling inside told me to get out of there and i did

i have also found now as a grown up - i&#39;ve observed ignoring my intuition and how it turns out they were warning signs that i should have listened too

i think being a witness, especially if one is young - theirs an authoritarian power of ones in higher positions that can make people ignore their intuition

i remember seeing a current affair show on a molester disguised as a police officer going around to McDonalds in various cities and accusing one of the workers of theft - then having her taken to a back room and held for hours - the unbelieveable part is the staff would co-operate because of his authority - the staff would do things they normally would consider offensive - it&#39;s a very disturbing eyeopener to how people can be manipulated

I am so sorry to read of these atrocious crimes,
We all know that Jehovah abhors such things,..and sometimes because we are so hurt to know they are happening in the organization, we strike out with our hurt and pain by saying things that show our strong feelings,. and so becoming victims as well of,..thereof,..

I personally take refuge in the fact of knowing that Jehovah can see what is happenng,..and he knows how to look after his good name,. therefore confident in the fact,. that he is able to pick up after himself,..and so clear his own name.
while we carry on doing with the more important things as his loyal servant&#39;s

These people who commit these crimes are answerable,.. and I for one believe they should be tried,. and the book thrown at them,..
and I make sure that is what I say if anyone out there tells me about these bad people in our organization

As for the organization keeping silent about such things,..Im sure you are all aware, that in its own time, it will take place as it should,..
Do not hurry your hearts my darlings Jehovah can see

In the bibnle accont that speaks of the prophet micaiah, he altho determined at first to be upright and true for righteousness,...fell short on seeing the opposition,....
After some prompting however from "least expected quarters" he came clean,..I love this account because it shows Jehovah in the role of a wonderful example of freedom of speech and choice of action ,..
Upon requesting thoughts from the angels the account says "some would say this and some would say that,... excellent reading at 1st Kings; 22:
maybe he is even saying "look at misilon go for it " hehe!!
cheers to you all,..

when the end comes, those that do this, even those that turn a blind eye to it, and stop up their ears to the complaints of the lowly one, will find themselves in really deep water, even falling into jehovahs hands for a judgement, and what a judgement that will be, to go to the boss directly, So, as the bible state clearly, to avoid blood guilt all cases must be dealt with according to Jehovahs word (2 Chronicles 19:10), and we are to obey the laws of society, as these laws and governments that enforce them are there because jehovah allows it (romans 13:1-7), and if they escape that, then they wont ecape jehovahs judgement, and neither will they be found in the congregation of righteous people (1 peter 4:17, psalms 1:5 zecariah 5:1-11 ezekiel 9:6)...enuff said</span>[/b]

Dear Newheart, I have also had this intuition, and like you never been wrong.
My bible studt conductor even told me the reality of the congergation, how some really are, and I have never forgotton it. We cant walk around blindly and having blind trust in people trust. Sure you expect it in the congregation, but as things have been revealed we can see that not even the congregation is a safe haven anymore.
