Written by Barbara Anderson Sunday, 28 December 2008 04:30 When the story broke on the Internet that the Watchtower was an NGO affiliated with the UN's Dept. of Public Information (DPI), I was not shocked. And I had no doubts whatsoever that the information was true because in 1991, when I was part of Brooklyn Bethel's Writing Dept., Ciro Aulicino began to visit the United Nations every Wednesday afternoon. However, back then I didn't have a clue as to what was required to get Ciro his "visitor's pass."
Ciro's primary job in Writing was to locate misc. books and journals for the staff from outside of Bethel. He had not been a department staff writer for many years. I went to Ciro's office almost daily, except on Wednesday afternoon when he would take the subway to 42nd Street where the NYC central library was located. He went to that library to do research and pick up books. Ciro would post a note on his door every Wednesday afternoon informing the staff of his whereabouts, which said, "Gone to the City."
Sometime late in 1991 or early 1992, I clearly remember when Ciro told me he had added the United Nations to his schedule of places to go on Wednesday to pick up material for the Writing Department. When I asked him how he was able to get into the UN, he said he had received a special pass so he could use the UN facilities, including the library because the Watchtower was an international publishing concern. Having the pass meant that Ciro could go into certain areas that were off limits to the public and listen to UN meetings, that is, if he wanted to. At the time, I thought it was a great opportunity for the Writing Dept. to have access to the latest information about world affairs directly from the UN. However, I never connected the Sept. 8, 1991 Awake! magazine cover series of articles about the UN with Ciro's trips to the UN. That particular magazine was put in our Bethel rooms early in August and I just didn't think about it later when Ciro told me about his visits to the UN.
Soon after I read that Awake!, Ciro told me he wrote the UN articles and that Lloyd Barry directly assigned him to do so. He also asked me what I thought about them. I told him how impressed I was with his work. The approach was different and I especially liked the last paragraph on page 10 which omitted the negative view JWs had of the UN and endeavored to stir up the reader's interest by stating that the UN will do some very astonishing things that will amaze people. I mentioned that I hoped this statement might cause someone to study the Bible with JWs out of curiosity.
It used to take about seven months, counting from the time a WT staff writer received a magazine article assignment until the printing of the actual WT or Awake!. Accordingly, we can assume that this UN/NGO matter was in the works from the beginning of 1991 or before. Whose idea it was, I have no way of knowing, but I will say that there had to be many people at the very top of the organization who were deeply involved. Although only the Governing Body Writing Committee (at that time made up of GB members, Barry, Barr and Klein), was required to authorize the writing of the articles on the UN, Ted Jaracz also had to know about this UN/NGO business, because one of the signatures on the UN/NGO agreement was Robert Johnson, who was in the Service Department, which department Ted Jaracz directs. Bob was and still is a very important man in the Service Department, and Bob Johnson takes his marching orders from Ted Jaracz.
Although I once counted all of these people as my friends, after being quickly ousted by them from the organization when I went public about their flawed sexual child abuse policies, I was not shocked by their duplicitous decision to hookup with the UN. However, I was amazed that their preposterous conduct came to light, thanks to the Internet.

Ok, now that you have discovered who the culpert is what can you do about it.
Again If Jehovah feels the need to make a correction then it WILL happen. But if one is holding the entire GB responsible then you may be found fighting against Jehovah. The arangement is sound and scriptural even if some may disagree for what ever reason.

Hi FaithfulJW:
I think the GB is totally responsible for this whole relationship. If you read more of Barbara Andersons comments about this affair, you will find out that this arrangement was approved to the highest levels of the society. Many have denied that the society ever "signed" an NGO agreement with the DPI, but Barbara Anderson discloses that Robert Johnson, who although not a GB member, signed the DPI agreement "on behalf" and in full knowledge of the GB. Lloyd Barry was the GB member most closely associated with this U.N. affair. I believe Robert Johnson is now President of one of the Society's Corporations. Oh, they knew, and they did it anyway and when they got caught, they did what they always do, they lied about it and blamed it on everyone else but themselves.
Yes I think Jehovah will act against this atrocity, and when he does you and I and everyone else better pray that we are no where near when he does!

I do not think that our sister is advocating that anyone do anything. She is just interested in what goes on behind the walls of the Watchtower and how the organization could have acted so hypocritically. In that, she is not alone. The Watchtower's hypocrisy is staggering and it is natural to want to know who the "culprits" are.
Jehovah is the same way. He always exposes evildoers before he destroys them. For example, he gave his watchman, Ezekiel, a supernatural glimpse behind the temple walls to see the corruption and hypocrisy practicsed by the priests as a prelude to their destruction. I believe Jehovah is doing the same thing today concerning the Watchtower's corruption and hypocrisy. The day is fast approaching when any JW who continues to support the leadership of the organization will find themselves fighting against Jehovah.

That sounds like a great quote for the cover of the 'Jehovah Himself Has Become King' S.E.

Would you be willing to qualify "support" brother? I sort of agree and sort of disagree, depending on what you mean.
Faithful Jews were not directed to leave Israel, quit the temple or their local synagogue, or stop making contributions within their means. When the religious leadership became corrupt, faithful individuals had to do their best to worship faithfully within the organization that they had. They wouldn't, of course, endorse or participate in the filthy false worship that was going on, if they wished to remain clean in Jehovah's eyes.
In the upcoming days, I feel that we are going to need to be willing, ready, and able to worship as families and households with spirit and truth without guidance from any human corporations. But I don't think we need to pre-empt Jehovah by ditching the JW organization early.

Actually, they were. On both occasions when Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed the Jews were instructed to abandon Jerusalem and to come out with their hands up, so too speak. Anyone who refused to obey lost their lives. Jesus indicated the same sort of situation will develop during the conclusion. Christians will be required to abandon "Jerusalem" when the disgusting thing appears.

Good point.
Both instances involved a secular military/political force bringing pressure to bear on the city(Babylon and Rome, respectively). Is that the sort of signal we are awaiting?
When the Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem it was finally after years of occupation, oppression, etc. The Romans likewise showed up several years before the final destruction of the city. Will the future desolation have a parallel period of pressure leading up to it during which faithful ones will be given time to escape?
Hmm. You've got me thinking...

More and more I am beginning to think that we are currently in the "parallel period of pressure" which you describe above. I'm not telling anyone else to leave necessarily, but it continues to be very apparent, at least to me, that the Watchtower is still in bed with the kings of the earth. It seems like the corporate bodies of the Watchtower Society are functioning in much the same way as the Herods did in the 1st Centuries BC/AD.
I'm not saying leave now, but increasingly I am keeping a wary eye.

Being in bed with the UN is going to be as helpful as being in bed with Egypt was to Israel.
Worth keeping awake, isn't it?

I do see where your coming from Robert, if things take a turn in the sense that the watchtower compremises with the incoming new world order, where would the individuals within the WTS stand? Would we be included in the scripture in Revelation "get out of her my people"
All we can do it draw close to Jehovah and heed the scriptures and their warnings.

I'm sure you're correct here. It won't be any more helpful, but it will likely be just as punishable.
Additionally, running a bit further with the Herod analogy, could the reason the Watchtower has been cozying up to the UN and the OSCE be in order to secure themselves on the "right side of things" when the 8th King takes control? In other words, the House of Herod "sold out" the Jewish people to the Roman Empire in return for relative autonomy within the nation, a "Kingdom" over the Jews. Could the Watchtower leadership be drumming up support for it's own modern-day "kingdom" over Spiritual Israel, and a hoped-for measure of autonomy under the 8th and Final King?
If that's what they're setting up for, then what the Watchtower has been selling for years, the fairy-tale that Jehovah's Witnesses will simply watch the Great Tribulation from the sidelines, takes on a broader meaning; along the lines of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Thoughts?
