As we prepare to upgrade the DB's software, it is absolutely ESSENTIAL that everyone makes certain that their email address is current and correct in their Profile. There is always the risk that a system upgrade will require you to reset your password, and you will not be able to do so if your email address is incorrect.
You can verify your registered email address by clicking on Personal CP, under the Personal Menu box, located to the left.

If you realize that your email address is outdated and/or inaccurate, you will need to change it by clicking on Change Email Address, located in the Options panel, which will appear while you are in your Personal CP.

Again, it is absolutely essential that you take the time to make sure that your email address is current AND that it is able to accept emails from this DB. Otherwise, you may be left with no other option than to sign back up with a new username and lose all of your Private Messages and Posts.
If you have any questions, please respond here, in this topic.

Hi Admin,
A question regarding the email addresses. At time I signed up we had to use a non web based email address, so no hotmail/gmail...
Is this still the case? Or can we use such email addresses as well.
kind regards,
Barry

We are not currently disallowing "free" email addresses. However, there have been times in the past when Hotmail has filtered out email addresses from the DB, treating such emails as spam--resulting in individuals either not receiving verification emails or subsequent emails. I do not know if this is the same case with gmail.

I will hold off on the update until sufficient time has passed for everyone to visit the board and see the announcement regarding a current email address. Downtime during the upgrade process is hard to predict, but I would be doing it during the early part of the week, when traffic here seems to be lighter--to minimize the impact.
I'd like to say that probably around the first week of August, but that could change. For now, it is just important that people make sure that their accounts have current and valid information.

Just so long as you are aware that Hotmail sometimes considers mail notices from this DB (and others) to be spam, and you might never even see them. Other than that, yes, you are okay with that email type.

Some though like btinternet merged with yahoo so I`m not sure if there is a difference in that case. Or if you pay for webhosting that also should provide a paid for email account. Gmail is weird the way it scans your email contents and puts relevant advertisments up.
I think with Google earth you can now look at yourself through your own window, looking at yourself on the computer, looking confused.

Is it possible to register an ALTERNATE e-mail address? In other words, have two addresses registered with the board in case one fails to receive mail from the board?

I have no problem with up/down loads. hehehe.
Are you still on dial-up?
Are you saying the server for this DB is not in the U.S.? I didn't know that.

`This is to let everyone know that the Discussion Board will be unavailable on Sunday, August 2, 2009, from 3pm (Eastern Standard Time, USA) until Monday, August 3, 2009` - Admin.
I guess the e-mail check thing is better done before 2nd August 2009 than after.
