Hello everyone,
as you may or may not know my wife and I are on holiday in Greece. I thought I would share some of our experience with you. I set up a blog and will be posting a few pics on it over the next few days. Actually, we are heading back to London tomorrow, but I just got a USB cable yesterday that allows me to upload pics off of a digital camera.
I am about vacationed out anyway and looking forward to getting back to London and back writing and doing what I do. But this is truly an enchanting land. It reminds me of San Diego -- almost all the same plants and trees and the same kind of weather and topography, rocks and sea, but a much richer history.

I have always wanted to sail in the Mediterranean. There is a smaller fleet that sails there. I think the company that arranges it is somewhere in Washington state. I gave up the dream some years ago.
How do the Greeks feel about JWs? Do you know? I seem to recall that some years ago it was wise not to reveal that a visitor was one to them. Is it better now? Or are you not taking a chance (smile)!
Anyway, I'm sure it is a beautiful trip and - as you say - full of history. I hope Patmos is on the intinerary. That would be such a "preview" to our re-study of the Revelation account!!
Thank you so much for sharing this!!!

Thank you for sharing. By the way, the vendor lady very interesting. I know she has lots of wonderful stories in her heart and mind. I love talking with older people like that.

Hi Heather
The Greek Orthodox church is very powerful here. In the old part of town where us touristy folks go there are churches around every corner. And it is not unusual to see costumed clergymen on the streets. I should have gotten a few pictures I suppose. They have been notorius in their persecution of Jehovah's Witnesses. Still, though, I think they are slowly losing their influence as the nation becomes more secularly oriented. Interestingly, we took a tour bus up the coast and I kept seeing these things along the roadside that lookedd like little mailboxes bit they had crosses on them. I asked the tour guide what they were and she said they were religious altars placed at the site of automobile crashes by the surviviors and that they periodically place little religious icons in the boxes in gratitude of having survived. Very odd custom, don't you think? There were a lot of them on this particular highway, which tells me that the Greeks are not only very religious but also very bad drivers. ;-)

P.s. I updated the Greek blog with some more pictures

Hey Robert
Have you been on a tour at the British museum run by the brothers, it you haven't tried it go before you return to the US and have to drive on the wrong side of the road again?
Just latch yourself on to one of the guides' and follow them around it's a must. I think there are about eight tours of the world powers in all. They only run on a Saturday.

Thanks Kenneth. I have been to the British Museum several times but I didn't know about the JW guided tour. I might try to do that before we go back to the States.
Gibson. That wasn't a "bad hair day." The wind was blowing about 30 MPH and the wind chill made it feel really cold. It may be 70 degrees in New York but is was a bit chilly in the Mediterranian area. Just goes to show, not sure what though. ;)
I put a few more pics on the Greek vacation pics blog.
Good to be back in the UK

No Orchid. My wife and I moved back to the United States early this year.
