The site update has been completed successfully.

Now for the pertinent information:

Our previous "portal" software that provided the right and left columns of information was declared as ceasing any further development, effective in October 2009, much to the chagrin of countless sites that depended on the software for their sites. This had the distinct problem of potential security issues, not to mention incompatibilities with DB software as time went on. As a result, it was decided that the portal software would be used until the developer for our DB's software finally released their long-anticipated update, which was released this week in its "gold" version.

At that time, the DB would be upgraded to the new software, and the portal would be dispensed with. This has the necessary impact on the appearance of the Discussion Board, of course. The niceties which everyone became accustomed to are now absent: shoutbox, online users, etc. Some of the missing features are actually integrated into this new software, however.

In addition, the new software supports advanced features, including Blogging and Content Management.

Anyone that has experienced the transition from Windows XP to Windows 7 (or Vista) knows the angst that comes from certain familiar landmarks vanishing, and while there may be that yearning for the older software, time proves the necessity for leaving the older software behind. This situation is in the same vein.

Finally, the new software will allow for better management of the Discussion Board by Robert as I continue to withdraw from oversight and management/administration responsibilities of Robert's sites and Discussion Board, and focus on my own obligations, as explained elsewhere on this Discussion Board.
