Wow,

I was wondering about that falcon in today's scripture. So I looked
up some info from the Insight Book.

Hawks and Falcons are very similar (hmmmmm)

It is a predator

A diving speed of up to 180 mph!!! (can ya imagine that much speed in a BIRD NO LESS!!!

It said that this particular scripture in Job 39:26 describes the falcon's soaring up and spreading its wings to the south wind, and this is understood by some to refer to a southward migration (spreads his wings to travel south"). Some others believe that the text describes the bird as turning into the oncoming wind and, by the power of its wings, flying into it, ascending higher and higher.

Falcons are said to rise to a great height, always endeavoring to outsoar any bird in which they may be in pursuit in order to be able to plummet down with fierce velocity upon the prey below, and in doing so they often avail themselves of the wind, and by flying against it are borne aloft like a kite.." (Funk and Wagnalls New Standard Encyclopeida, 1931, Vol. XI, pp. 3219, 330)

What I thought was most interesting though was that the falcon held a very prominent place in the religion of Egypt. (says Insight book) It became the symbol of Horus the falcon-headed god of Egypt, who, together with ISIS and Osiris, formed the principal trinity or "holy family" among Egypt's gods and godesses.

The falcon symbol was always used in writing the title of the Pharaohs, and in some cases, these rulers were considered to be incarnations of Horus. (Weird huh??)

It went on to say that of the hundreds of mummified birds found in Egypt, the falcon, particularly the kestrel, is among the most numerous.

This really knocked my socks off: Herodotus said that anyone killing a falcon in Egypt, even though accidentally, WAS PUT TO DEATH!! Talking about over the top! Good grief.

Just found all this kinda of intersting.

Hope it was ok to do use the Insight book here. If not, I apologize already.

Lub to ya all

Hello E&E,

Apparently you could also get the death sentence for accidentaly killing a cat in Egypt.

It is not so far fetched to see that some of these elemental `pagan` symbols are so close scriptural references.

Reading Isaiah you get the impression that if a person was feeling spiritual they might decide to `knock up a god` for themselves during a lunch break. Carve a bit of wood and such, there you go, home made god. Cook your actual lunch on whats left over from the wood.

It`s like Soloman says about the vainity of vainities. Reverence given to the work of a man`s hands. To the Extreme.

The WTBTS has long acknowledged that the Greek myths are based on real life tales of the Nephalim and pre-antideluvian figures. The cross- reference NWT also goes so far as to compare prometheous with Christ.

As the Greek legends were the bases of a religion for that empire its perhaps the case that the Egyptian religion may have been conected to the fathers of the nephalim who knew very well that the Eagle and the Cat represented aspects of the One true God, Jehovah.

If some of the architechture in the Land of Egypt dates to a pre-antideluvuian time frame then it is not so suprising to understand that settler decendants of Noah may have attached the pre-flood stories and legends to those archechtures which spawed a religion based on pre flood events. In the same way that the Greek legend did as acknowledged by the Society.

Really its less vain to use Pagan elements such as Eagles and Cats in worship than it is Bits of wood statues that you`ve made yourself. At least Jehovah actualy made them. I believe this is shown through history where people worship bits of wood and stone they often go on to burn babies an that kind of stuff, sacrifice people in rituals. Christ gave himself, not others.

Mixed up priorities, the privillaged position that ancient Israel held was related directly to knowing the things pleasing to The creator of all things.

Falcons are also very prized birds in the middle east. A very good friend of mine knew a guy here in the States who went to the Middle East to go on a big falconry trip. The people of the middle east used the bird for hunting and sport. Falcons have a huge history there.
