Go once again, love a woman loved by a companion and comitting adultery. - Hos. 3:1

Hosea complied with this command by repurchasing Gomer from the man with whom she had been living. Afterward, Hosea firmly admonished his wife: "For many days you will dwell as mine. You must not commit fornication, and you must not come to belong to another man." (Hos. 3:2,3) How did this apply to God's dealings with the people of Israel and Judah?

While exiles from Israel and Judah were captvies in Babylon, God used his prophets to 'speak to their heart.' To receive divine mercy, his people had to manifest repentance and go back to their Husbandly Owner, as Gomer had returned to her husband. Then Jehovah would take his disciplined wifelike nation out of the Babylonian "wilderness" and bring her back to Judah and Jerusalem. (Hos 2:14, 15)

He fulfilled that promise in 537 B.C.E.

Boy oh Boy, we sure do have a very loving, compassionate and merciful heavenly Father.

We sometimes can fall flat on our faces, but if we can extend ourselves beyond ourselves, past all the pain and muck muck, we will see Jehovah holding out his hand to us. He is lovingly encouraging us to grab hold of his forgiving, merciful hand. If we only allow him to 'speak to our hearts' during that most critical painful time, Jehovah can work with us, forgive us and turn us completely around.

We are human, we make mistakes and our Father is aware of that. He will work with us if we allow him to. He loves us very very much as does his Son.

May we HOLD ON TIGHT TO JEHOVAH AND NEVER LET HIM GO OKEY DOKEY.

*bad joke alert*

I wonder if Jehovah struck Gomer with 'piles'?

Back to the text. Jehovah is really a forgiving God. He taught that very forgiveness to Hosea. Hosea must have been a very humble person to take his wife back after she did him wrong.

haha sorry.

One of my favorite story in the bible is when the Philistines captured the Ark of the Covenant and the whole town was struck with piles. To get rid of the piles they had to make an image of a golden pile. i found it amusing. And the fact that her name was Gomer (get it) Gomer Pyle? lol sorry for hijack.

At first when I read the text I didn't understand the wording of the scripture. I had to re-read it a couple times. When I read the comment I understood what it meant.

It really is loving that Jehovah took His adulteress nation back under His wing. He truely is a forgiving God. Something we could all learn a lesson from.
