Ok, regardless of whether or not this prophecy has another fulfillment, the reason I consider it so important is that many, if not most Evangelists and 'Christian' websites on the web are using it as the centerpiece of their interpretations. Therefore, a seven-year Tribulation. They're also honing in on America playing the part of Babylon the Great. In that sense they have a good idea that America's going down first, but their timing on just about everything else seems to be way off.
Part of the problem is that many translations use the word "treaty" instead of "covenant". Another problem is that those same translations say "the prince that is coming", where the NWT says "leader". But they do recognize that the "prince that is coming" is not Jesus, because Jesus is obviously not the one who destroys Jerusalem. On the other hand, they believe that the 8th King is the one who causes "gift offering and sacrifice to cease", by breaking the supposed treaty with Israel at the half of the week, or after 3 1/2 years.
In any case, this all fits in with a very important truth. While we see that all prophecy focuses on the holy city, and really only those gifted with the most insight would be able to see who that really is, there's no escaping the fact that the world in general is going to be very easily convinced that Bible prophecy is truly being fulfilled, because they're taking it all very literally. Imagine them pawning off the lie to the world that their made-by-conspiracy fake nation-state in Israel is really God's Promised Land. Pretty sad, huh?
The more I think about it, it's quite possible that the Revelation is too cryptic for ANY of them to figure out, without the absolute right key, which only Jehovah's true people will have.
Now how ingenious is THAT on Jehovah's part?

Whether you are correct or not about this 7 year thing, you are offering some interesting food for thought. Time will tell. Personally, I don't like the 7 year thing (3 1/2 years sounds much better to me).
Still, I agree whole heartedly that it is pretty ingenious on the part of Jehovah to make it so cryptic that only those that he wishes can comprehend.

Me neither. Seven years is a looooong time.
Just to clarify, I don't think it will be seven years because they think so. My reasoning is that I can't fathom everything taking place inside 42 months, with the big problem being the 3 1/2 years in the "wilderness" after the first attack. Other problems would be that it's not logical that the world would worship the NWO in it's final form, during which it has 42 months authority. They'll worship exactly what the NWO is right now advertising itself to be, which is the answer to everything. Global warming, terrorism, failing currencies, war, nuclear proliferation, etc. All the things that they will use to scare the living daylights out of everyone in the first place. "Order out of Chaos", you know.
Also the two-horned beast looks like a lamb but begins speaking like a dragon. While it may be true that it is already doing so, my feeling is that the worst is yet to come. I think that before the US collapses it will greatly resemble the Nazi regime.
I also don't know how long the US Dollar will hold up, perhaps it will be bailed out by the "Amero" or something. I find it amazing that the world economy hasn't yet collapsed, but it is inevitable. Certainly the Bush admin has no qualms about spending money they supposedly don't have. However I think their funding comes from places that the average person would never believe. That's how the underworld works. I suppose the global bankers can conspire to somehow keep the bubble from bursting for as long as they need to get everything prepped for the NWO to step in.
Also we don't know how long the beast is in the abyss. The period of anarchy between the fall of the Anglo-King and the rise of the NWO is undetermined, and I dare not even speculate how long the world can survive in that state. But if the GT was started and Christ's Presence begins while the 7th King is still in power, which seems to be the case, it could take some time for all the events to unfold before the 42 months begins.
In any event I think it would do more harm to expect a shorter tribulation than a longer one. I think this is a key as to what will confuse the Witnesses. They'll be expecting to be saved by Armageddon after WWIII and instead they'll get the NWO. That ain't good.

I predicted in 1986 there would be 10 years to Armageddon 1997.
And i predicted 7 year war or tribulation from 1990-1997.
Saddam invaded 1990 on Aug 2.
But my alternative year was 2009, and as you can see no 7 years.
see my post on 70 weeks, 69 to complete city of 1000 years,
and 7 weeks (49 jubilees) where the 50th occurs now.
Jesus in the flesh. How is it literal, how is it symbolic.
They see Jesus when you knock on their doors.
You are the flesh.
It is based on us seeing God 2000 years ago when we see Jesus.
