I may have overlooked any comments or discussion of the new book. Although I did not attend the convention, one of my dear sisters brought back my own personal copy. Has anyone read Chapter 4 on Obedience?! Very interesting point in there about Jesus continuing to obediently attend at the synagogue even though he knew it was going to be overthrown/disapproved by Jehovah and replaced by Christianity. Did anyone else take note of this? What are your thoughts?

Couldn`t comment specifically on the book because i haven`t seen it yet.
Jesus cleared out the money changers ect. Christ always respected the temple in Jerusalem. I don`t think of him as regularly attending meetings there. Apart from the attonment ect. I`d love to see what scriptures are referenced and in what context. After his ministry started what meeting could he attend that he wasn`t the foremost authority at ? Even before. It sounds like spin at face value though.
You got me all excited now J4

I don't have the book yet (we'll have our convention in a month or so), but it sure sounds interesting. I like how they make the point that Jesus went to the synagogue. Only I'd like to emphasize that it probably has little to do with obedience - for he went there to educate the Jews about himself, the Messiah - but with the best way of reaching other people with the good news. Sometimes you have to make compromises, like that example of Paul in Acts 21:21-24. Also interesting is Acts 18:18, 19, where Paul had his hair cut short because he was under a vow, and he went to the synagogue. Again, not to attend a meeting, but to reason with the Jews.

IMHO
We know Jesus came not to break the Law but to fullfill it.
The Moesaic Law was a Perfect Law given By Jehovah to Moses ,who in turn gave it to Gods people.
The Law was also a tutor that lead the Nation to Christ.
They understood, no imperfect man could keep that Law to the letter.
They also under stood the eye for a eye a tooth for a tooth a life for a life.
They also understood it would take a PERFECT life to buy back what Perfect Adam lost.
That was the reason for the Ransom sacrifice, to give back the oppertunity which was Jahs purpose to begin with to live forever here on earth. So after Jesus fullfilled the Mosaic Law we see that that Law was hung on the torture stake with him. It was finished
no more need for it.
IMHO
Jesus going to the Synagogue played a very important part in Jesus keeping the Law and Why he kept it.
The importance of his going to the synogogue was to fullfill scripture and prophecy.
We have Jesus in the Synagogue opening up the scroll of Isaiah and reading out loud to those who were in attendence Isa 61:1-2 and telling them that that had its fullfillment in him. That Jehovah had annointed him.
Can you imagine the gasp that must have taken place !!! (you can almost hear it )
Then we had Jesus turning over the money changers who had made His fathers house a den for robbers.
So there really was no compromise there, these were events that HAD to take place in order to full fill prophecy.
We know that Temple was distroyed in 70 CE,
There is no building that can contain God Spirit since then
The sciptures tell us God does not dwell in hand made temples
There for we have the spiritual temple made up of Living stones , with Christ as the Cornor stone and this is where Jahs spirit dwells. These are His adopted sons, whos citizenship belongs in Heaven, as they belong to Heavenly Jerusalem ( Sahra the free woman, she is their mother ) Gal 6:21-31
Sorry got carried away

"When it comes to obeying imperfect humans, Jesus faced challenges that true Christians today never have to face. Consider the unique times in which he lived. The Jewish religious system of things, with its temple in Jerusalem and its priesthood, had long been approved by Jehovah but was about to be cast off and replaced with the Christian congregation arrangement. (Matthew 23:33-38) Meanwhile, many of the religious leaders were teaching falsehoods derived from Greek philosopy. In the temple, corruption had become so rampant that Jesus called it "a cave of robbers." (Mark 11:17) Did Jesus stay away from that temple and the synagogues? No! Jehovah was still using those arrangements. Until God stepped in and made changes, Jesus obediently went to the temple festivals and the synagogue. Luke 4:16; John 5:1."
Although it is, of course, not specifically mentioned in this chapter, I personally translate this to say that we are being encouraged to continue with our congregation participation even though we are aware of serious shortcomings which may lead to Jehovah's judgements in the future. This is pretty much consistent with what my response has been to concerns on this board in the past...the situation is Jehovah's business, not mine. My business is to be about my own worship and service within the congregation until such time that Jehovah indicates otherwise.
What do you think of the above quoted paragraph?
Thanks!!

I think that your absalutly right...... I don think thats its human to stand by and see all the things that are going wrong within the org and not want to do something....Like stand up and scream to the top of your lungs. But like you said, Jehovah will take care of it. Its just so extreamly difficult as we see things going from bad to worse and having to endure all the hardships that is being laid upon us.

Well, Gabriel, I've experienced some maltreatment or injustice over the years, but not frequently. I have found that if I stay focused on my ministry, the meetings, and personal study I am at peace most often. I have confidence in Jehovah and am grateful for the sacrifice of his son. I only socialize with others in the ministry or casually at the meetings when there's time. Other than that I stay to myself. Jehovah has been kind and very forgiving towards me. I am grateful for the truth and try to stay close to Jehovah and not bring reproach on his name. My love to all, Heather

Heather ,your words reflect what is in your heart.Beautiful your statements.Keep on the good work.It is so true what you said "I have found that if I stay focused on my ministry, the meetings, and personal study I am at peace most often. I have confidence in Jehovah and am grateful for the sacrifice of his son."
For you:
<div align="left">(Numbers 6:24-26) "24 "May Jehovah bless you and keep you. 25 May Jehovah make his face shine toward you, and may he favor you. 26 May Jehovah lift up his face toward you and assign peace to you."’"</div>

where in the "law code" does it talk about synagougues?
from my understanding synagogues didnt show up until the Jews were exiled into Babylon and the Jews would meet in small groups as they could'nt have their yearly gathering at the temple - so it was a custom the Jews set up not Jehovah
Jesus went to the sysnagougues to teach the Jews about his being the chosen King and Messiah - He spoke HONESTLY and was often threatened with death

Sword of Jah, thank you for your kind words.
Billy, the quote is from the book. Additionally, I feel a bit comfortable referring to "synagogues"...I guess because my mother was a Jew. Sorry if it offends, but the book uses the word as well. (See quote above)...
Love, Heather
