I've always wondered about that illustration. The anointed are the bride of Christ as I know it. So Christ is coming to his house with the bride. What's the deal with the virgins at this point? IMO, they don't represent the anointed but am open to other ideas.

Does it say that? I think Christ is coming as a bridegroom in that he is just about to be married but is not married yet, so his bride is not with him when he arrives in this illustration. Maybe that helps compartmentalize the virgins a bit better?

This was the custom in ancient Israel: A man went to the bride's home to accept her from her family. That was considered the "wedding". Then the bride was taken home and the marriage was consummated...hubba, hubba.
THEN the bridegroom and the bride went to the marriage feast to celebrate with their friends...which in this case included the 10 virgins. In other words the virgins were not the bride or brides...they were friends of the bride and bridegroom.Additional evidence:
In the Aramaic targums of Matthew it actually says that the bridegroom arrives with his bride.
This makes sense. Why would a bridegroom arrive at a celebration without his bride? And if he did, what kind of angle do the waiting virgins represent? The faithful ones were going to be insta-married? And go against the Jewish tradition of marriage? It doesn't make sense.
Also look at Psalm 45:13-16.

Perhaps RK will comment. But from what I remember he believes what the Watchtower teach, that the virgins are the anointed and somehow have something to do with the marriage...without being married...or something...like that...
From what I've researched they may be representative of the GC. That seems to fit better. They await the marriage of the lamb to his anointed ones. Some are rejected as they aren't prepared properly and don't care enough to prepare properly. Some are ready and Christ welcomes them to the celebration of his marriage.
I'm not sure and I have to be careful as I've put forth other ideas here and been shot down hard. Not proven wrong...just shot down. I don't mind and convid taught me to be hard but not argumentative, for the most part.
But that's part of the beauty of the freedom of the Christ. We can investigate and question stuff. We may be proven wrong...or right, but we show ourselves alert and awaiting his return...just like some virgins with oil, eh? That spiritual voyage of discovery sure doesn't happen with the Dictators of Sodom.

Luke 12:35-36 definitely is referring to the anointed. They are the “little flock”. I understand your point, however, I can only guess that singularly the “virgins” are not the bride, they probably are collectively the bride and also individually the bride’s companions. The illustration is not literal and so I wouldn’t try to make it an exact and logical replica of each role.
